The USFL schedule was released and we now know who the Pittsburgh Maulers will play for the first 10-week season of the league's inaugural year.  The season will start on April 16th, with a game between the New Jersey Generals and the Birmingham Stallions.  Then, the other six teams will kick their season off that next day, Sunday, April 17th.  The Stallions are the only true home team this season as all games will be played at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Alabama.   The regular season will consist of 10 weeks, followed by a two-week playoff.

Despite the league being owned by Fox Sports, the inaugural game will be simulcasted on Fox and NBC, and can be streamed on NBC's Peacock streaming platform.  The first game on Sunday between the Houston Gamblers and the Michigan Panthers will also be available on NBC and Peacock.  Additionally there are games on, NBCUniversal-owned, USA Network among Fox and FS1.

Tickets are set up a little differently for the USFL, with all games at the same venue.  The inaugural game is currently priced at $40 for a reserved club ticket, or $10 if you just want a spot in the General Admission seats.  However, all the other games are price as full-day tickets.  So the purchaser can attend all USFL games played on that single date for just $10 in General Admission or the $40 for the Club.  There is also the option to buy 10 single day tickets for just $90.  Overall, extremely reasonable prices to take in a professional football game.  Tickets can be purchased at theUSFL.com.

Week 1 - Pittsburgh Maulers vs Tampa Bay Bandits
Sunday, April 17th @ 8PM on FS1

The Maulers will kickoff their season against the Tampa Bay Bandits at 8 pm ET on Sunday April 17th.  The game will be televised on FS1.  You can spend Easter Sunday with your family watching Pittsburgh's newest team.

The Bandits feature quarterback Jordan Ta'amu, a familiar name for fans of the SEC.  Ta'amu had two great seasons for Ole Miss, passing for 5,600 yards and 30 touchdowns.  He signed with the Houston Texans in 2019 before playing for the XFL.  His play in the XFL earned him tryouts with many other NFL teams, but nothing seemed to stick.  Ta'amu will now lead the Bandits into battle.

Week 2 - Pittsburgh Maulers at Philadelphia Stars
Sunday, April 23rd @ 12PM on Fox

In their second week, the Maulers will take on cross-state rival, the Philadelphia Stars.  Arguably the worst name in the whole league, as they should be since Philadelphia is the worst sports city I've ever visited, the Stars don't feature a known QB.  Instead, Freedom Akinmoladun, whose name makes up for the lack of originality shown by the team name, is a standout defensive-end.  In addition to being named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2015, Freedom played in the NFL for both the Cincinnati Bengals and the New York Jets.  This game will be televised on Fox.

Week 3 - Pittsburgh Maulers at Michigan Panthers
April 30 - May 1st

For weeks 3-10, neither the date, time, nor the television schedule has been set for any of the games.  However, we do know that on the third weekend, the Maulers will take on the Michigan Panthers.

The Panthers had the No. 1 overall pick in the entire draft and selected Shea Patterson, a familiar name out of Michigan.  Now, the draft was different in the USFL where each round was a specific position, so the Panthers had to take a QB.  However, Patterson was worthy of the 1st pick anyway.

Patterson is a former 5-star recruit who had an outstanding career with Michigan, finishing ahead of both Tom Brady and Jim Harbaugh on the school's all-time passer list with 8,800 yards and 68 touchdowns.  He then signed with the Kansas City Chiefs before spending time playing in the CFL.

Week 4 - Pittsburgh Maulers vs New Jersey Generals
May 6 - May 8

A player I'm looking out for on the Generals is linebacker, D'Juan Hines.  Hines was a first-team All-AAC player and has NFL regular season experience earlier in his career.  While he did eventually miss the final cut for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019, which sent him to the XFL two months later, real NFL experience is rare among those drafted in this inaugural class.  That, plus his stellar play in the XFL with the New York Guardians sets Hines up to be one of the best all-around linebackers in the USFL.

Week 5 - Pittsburgh Maulers at Houston Gamblers
May 13 - May 15

In addition to drafting Northwestern star quarterback, Clayton Thorson, who was drafted in the 5th round of the NFL draft but never saw the field during the regular season, the Gamblers did very well in the defensive end rounds, picking up both Chris Odom and Ahmad Gooden.

Odom played seven games with the Green Bay Packers and four games with the Washington Football Team.  He collected 28 career tackles and two sacks.  Gooden played just three games for the Denver Broncos in 2019, and had just two tackles and one QB Hit.  However, with NFL regular season experience at a premium in the USFL, the Gamblers are set to have the best defensive line in the league.

Week 6 - Pittsburgh Maulers at New Orleans Breakers
May 21- May 22

One familiar new Breaker that Pittsburgh fans may know, especially Pitt Panther fans, is Defensive End James Folston Jr.  Folston played four years for the Panthers and played in 28 games.  He collected 47 tackles on the Pitt defensive line, and had 1.5 sacks.  Folston's dad, James Folston Sr, played seven seasons in the NFL and now his son will get a shot at professional play.

Week 7 - Pittsburgh Maulers vs Birmingham Stallions
May 28 - May 29

The Maulers will take on the host of the first season for the first time in Week 7.  By now, Major League Baseball will have cancelled half of their season, the Penguins will be on their way to another Stanley Cup, and Kenny Pickett will be one full month into his career as a Pittsburgh Steeler.

Under center for the Stallions will be former seventh-round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks, Alex McGough out of Florida International.  McGough had NFL stints in Jacksonville and Houston as well, but has been a free agent since being released by the Seahawks in 2021.  McGough threw for 65 touchdowns at Florida International.

Week 8 - Pittsburgh Maulers at New Jersey Generals
June 3 - June 5

Week 9 - Pittsburgh Maulers vs Philadelphia Stars
June 11 - June 12

Week 10 - Pittsburgh Maulers vs Michigan Panthers
June 18 - June 19
