As if the news of Pittsburgh Pirate prospect Diego Castillo making the big leagues wasn't bad enough for the New York Yankees, the Pirates continued to troll the Yankees when they released their promo schedule today.  Castillo came over with Hoy Park from the Yankees in the Clay Holmes trade last season for those that need reminded.  In addition to fireworks nights, dollar dogs, and pup nights, the Pirates announced their bobbleheads for the season as well.

On Tuesday, July 5th (two days before my birthday for any faithful followers that want to buy me a beer at the game that day), the Pirates are giving out Bill Mazeroski Gold Glove Bobbleheads.  These are presented by Guardian Protection, and will be given out to the first 20,000 fans through the gate.

The troll is that the opponent on July 5th is none other than the New York Yankees.  It doesn't take a die-hard Pirate fan to know why this is oh so fitting.  Mazeroski hit one of the most famous homeruns in all of baseball history, when he walked off the 1960 World Series in Game 7 against the mighty Bronx Bombers.  It remains the only World Series winning walk-off homerun in league history.

The games this season against the Yankees should already sell pretty well, so I have to think this was planned to tie in with that homerun.  I imagine Mazeroski will be honored at the game and video of the Yankees defeat will be shown several times on the video board.

As the Pirates continue to fleece the Yankees in trades as of late, I love the promotions team taking another poke at the Evil Empire.
