It is being reported by Robert Murray from FanSided (@ByRobertMurray) that Ke'Bryan Hayes and the Pittsburgh Pirates are in agreement on an eight-year, $70 million contract extension that includes a club option for a ninth season.  If confirmed, the Pirates 25 year old, 3rd baseman would be the holder of the largest contract in Pittsburgh Pirates history!  A record previously held by catcher Jason Kendall.

When healthy, Hayes is the best defensive third baseman in the game.  He also has shown the ability to hit for power and for average.  Hayes is a fan favorite, and will begin just his third season, and his second full season, this afternoon as the starting third baseman for the Pirates.  He finished 6th in Rookie of the Year voting in the shortened 2020 season.

This is huge, uplifting news coming into a season where there was very little for Pirate fans.  It is an awesome start to the 2022 season, and really makes for a memorable Opening Day for Pittsburgh Pirate fans!!
