It'd be one thing to say the trajectory of the Pitt basketball program is on the rise. However, that would be an understatement. In the span of just three days, head coach Jeff Capel has now landed two 4-star recruits.
Dior Johnson, the No. 7 point guard in the 2022 class, committed to Pitt on Monday out of nowhere. He announced his commitment on his Twitter account. Then, earlier today on a CBS Sports broadcast, the No. 99 overall player in the 2023 class also committed to Pitt. The commitment came in the form of 4-star guard, Carlton Carrington.

Carrington will graduate in the Spring from St. Frances Academy located in Baltimore, Maryland. At 6-4, 175 pounds, he is described as a big combo-guard who is still filling out his big frame. Carrington had received eight offers in total, including Rutgers and LSU.
While Carrington won't have the opportunity to play with Nike Sibande or Jamarius Burton, and maybe John Hugley depending on his status in 2023, he continues the upward trajectory of the Pitt basketball program. Unless Johnson is a one-and-done, Carrington will play with him, plus twin recruits Guillermo and Jorge Diaz from the 2022 class. Carrington joins 3-star Marlon Barnes as the other member of the Panther 2023 recruiting class so far.
The good times keep on rolling for Pitt basketball, however, until they win some games, I will remain cautiously optimistic.
