Panther Bombs Continue PSL Softball Dominance

Photo credit: Lauren Wolfe While most Pittsburgh sports fans were tuning into the Roansy Contreras start for the Pittsburgh Pirates, or rooting for the Carolina Hurricanes to take a 3-1 series lead over the dreaded New York Rangers, several were instead up on Troy Hill, witnessing one of the most dominant runs in Pittsburgh sports history. The Panthers Bombs have become a mainstay of the Pittsburgh Sports League softball world, and last night showed no signs of slowing down for the bunch. In their fourth finals appearance in as many seasons, the Panther Bombs took their second championship in an absolute whomping. By the time the final out was recorded, the score was an embarrassing 23-12, in favor of the Bombs. Local Radio Host Has Worst Pittsburgh Sports Take of All-Time

I've seen many Pittsburgh sports takes in my day, especially with the emergence of social media. By count, there have certainly been more bad takes than good takes. Admittedly, I've had some doozies in my day. However, yesterday's take from 93.7 The Fan's, Colin Dunlap, may have been the worse I have seen to date. We've all come to know, and love, the stereotype that Pittsburgh sports fans, especially Steeler fans, are everywhere. Us locals know that whenever we are traveling to a beach, a different city, or even a different country, Pittsburgh sports fans are everywhere. If you look up at one of those high-rise condominium buildings that now line every beach up the East Coast you will see either a Steelers flag or beach towel draped over the railing. I hate it actually. I'd rather Pitt win in front of a crowd of 10 people than lose in front of a crowd of 110k people. However, I do think the home crowd helped the Pitt Panthers in Thursday night's win over their rival West Virginia. Several have said the crowd was 50/50. I was there. At most, WVU had 30% of the crowd. At most. And that's counting the band. So Pitt had at least 70% of, reportedly, the largest crowd in Pittsburgh sports history. Homefield advantage is so important in college football. There is no scientific way to measure the emotional impact a crowd can have on a home team, but it's clear that it does impact the game.
